Auckland Council listings

Local government in the wider Auckland area is being reorganised as a result of legislative change. Existing city, district and regional councils will be dissolved and a new unitary authority – the Auckland Council – will operate from 1 November 2010.

The Auckland Council will have the responsibilities and powers held by the current local authorities. It will be a significant employer which will take over existing local government assets valued at $29 billion.

Auckland Transport listings

A new Transport entity is being established for the region, consolidating the transport related functions of the existing eight councils and the Auckland Regional Transport Authority (ARTA).

Auckland Transport will ensure strategic alignment with the Auckland Council, through the development and delivery of transport activities that give effect to the Council’s strategic direction. A high quality transport system is a pre-requisite to Auckland becoming a ‘world class city’. Auckland Transport will deliver a transport system that supports the Auckland Council’s plans and enables Auckland’s growth and economic development.
